Festival alum Jordon Vogt-Roberts made his Hollywood big budget debut this weekend with Kong: Skull Island, which claimed the top spot in the weekend box office earning $61 million on over 3,800 screens.

When a diverse team of scientists, soldiers, and adventurers journey to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, they discover a land as dangerous as it is beautiful. Completely cut off from civilization, the team is separated in the domain of the mighty Kong. The team’s arrival ignites a massive battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

In 2010, Vogt-Roberts screened his dark comedy short, Successful Alcoholics, starring T.J. Miller and Lizzy Caplan.
