Illegal Aliens is a BWiFF 2017 short film official selection that takes the United States immigration debate to a interplanetary level in this mockumentary science fiction/comedy. The film uses the setting of a small local government to parallel the national conversation. The result is a quirky satire that’s ironically human.
Due to the recent arrival of undocumented immigrants, the city of Simpletown holds a special session city council meeting to determine if the town should officially ban the newcomers. Watch the full short film below.
Illegal Aliens is directed by festival alumni Justin + Kristin Schaack, a married directing duo that have been working together for over 15 years. They began their creative partnership on stage in sixth grade middle school productions.
“Many tell us that they cannot imagine working side-by-side with their spouse, but for us, we can’t imagine not working together,” says the Schaack team.
