IMDb Message Boards Closing

IMDb is closing their message boards effective Monday, February 20, 2017.

The Amazon company made the announcement last week in a statement on their website. In the statement IMDb says, “After an in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb’s message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.”

IMDb’s social media sites have been determined the appropriate equivalent for movie fans to continue posting comments and interact with the company’s editors. WhileFacebook may be the obvious default for future posting, the company also urges the use of Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube, and Tumblr.

Message boards will remain open through Sunday, February 19 so that users may still access their comments and archive them for personal use. IMDb plans to continue improving their site and “launch new features in 2017.”
